Design Technology at Chesterton Primary School

Intent

At Chesterton Primary School the D&T curriculum aims to develop the pupil’s creativity, technical and practical expertise in order to perform everyday tasks confidently and to participate successfully in an increasingly technological world. From EYFS to Year 6 the D&T curriculum will introduce children to a broad range of subject knowledge and draw on disciplines such as mathematics, science, engineering, computing and art.

Children will develop their skills by using creativity and imagination in design and test products to solve real world, relevant problems within a variety of contexts, considering their own and others’ needs, wants and values.

Chesterton pupils will learn how to take risks, becoming resourceful, innovative, enterprising and capable citizens. They will develop an understanding of technology through the evaluation of past and present design and technology, thinking critically about its impact on society and on daily life and the wider world.
