Safeguarding & Online Safety

At Chesterton Primary, we teach children how to be safe through our whole school assemblies and our PSHE curriculum. In our assemblies, we learn about how to identify adults in the school by looking at their lanyard and ID badges. We also have posters around the school that show which adults can help us if we have an injury.

Road Safety

At Chesterton, we learn about road safety in our PSHE curriculum. Additionally, the pupils across have Bikeability sessions to learn how to be safe when riding bicycle. We believe that we should know that it is important to see and be seen by other road users. In our lessons, we teach children that they should wear something light and bright at night or in bad weather. We also explore the use and benefits of materials within our Science curriculum.

At Chesterton Primary, our online safety curriculum aims to effectively educate and empower both students and their parents/guardians. We aim to foster a safe and responsible digital environment by raising awareness about potential online risks, promoting best practices, and equipping our school community with practical tools and strategies to navigate the internet securely.

Parents and carers play a crucial role in ensuring their children understand the need to use the internet and mobile devices in an appropriate way. The school will take every opportunity to help parents understand these issues through newsletters, our website, information about online safety campaigns and literature, and workshops.

Parents and carers are encouraged to support the school in promoting good online safety practice and to follow guidelines on the appropriate use of:

  • Digital and video images taken at school events
  • Access to parents' sections of the website and online pupil records
  • Their children's personal devices in the school (where this is allowed)
